Tell us about YOU:
Describe yourself in 3 words: Hmm I will have to go with Honest, Dependable and Extroverted.
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement? Completing my Staging Design Professional training before my goal date and launching a business with three busy children still at home.
What are your top 3 favorite places/things to do in RVA? I love going to Maymont with my family, visiting the different museums, and going to shows at The National.
Tell us about your BUSINESS:
My company is Jersey Girl in the South Design Company. I am an interior decorator and home stager. My specialty is Occupied Home Staging and I love working with homeowners to get their property ready to be listed for sale. For those who are in need of decorating assistance, I offer a few different services. You can choose from my Color Consultation, Styling Service, Signature Service (where we transform an entire space) or Decorator On Call hours (where I assist you with your DIY project).
What inspired you to start your business? After staying home with my children, I was ready to get back out into the work force. I wanted to start a new career that would allow me to still be available to them and also be both challenging and rewarding. Several friends have encouraged me to go into this field for years. I finally took the leap and I’m so glad that I did!
What’s been the hardest part of running your own business? What keeps you going when things get hard? Like most small business owners, it has been Covid and the restrictions that come along with that. I try to keep my long term goals in mind and keep moving forward. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about Covid, so I am trying to make the best of it and adapt.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone that’s considering starting their own business? Research as much as you can beforehand and build yourself a great network. Having mentors in the industry to guide me has been so helpful.
