Today I had the honor of attending a cast member preview event of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the guest of a cast member.
I’ve been looking forward to this new land since the announcement years ago, just like the other lands before it (Pandora and Toy Story), but I was really unsure what to expect. I mean, how the HECK were they going to pull this off and make it amazing enough to make back all the money they were investing and then some? When I found out that I would be going to the preview, it was hard to contain my excitement and post it all over the internet. I know this was allowed, but I wanted to keep it a little bit of a special secret.
Anyway, let’s get to what you all came here for. Today we got to explore the new land from 11am-3pm and ride the Millenium Falcon. After passing very high-security checkpoints, we entered Galaxy’s Edge and it immediately felt like we left Hollywood Studios and had entered a new park. Everything was huge and so well thought out and done, down to the prints in the ground from droids and other creatures of Batuu, and the outfits all the cast members were wearing. (Oh and they even tell you how much something is in “credits”!) Unfortunately the ride, “Rise of the Resistance” does not open until December, so I have nothing to share on that. But I was able to get some great photos before heading towards the marketplace.
The marketplace area was seriously so awesome. I just loved all the detail the Imagineers put into it. There are lots of little shops as well as little snack areas here. If you head all the
The marketplace area was seriously so awesome. I just loved all the detail the Imagineers put into it. There are lots of little shops as well as little snack areas here. If you head all the way towards the back and walk out, you will find yourself near the Docking Bay 7 quick serve, the lightsaber store, and the “Millenium Falcon” ride (just to name a few things).
The Millenium Falcon was really cool. Before the ride you can snap some photos and look around, which is really nice too. I got to be one of the pilots, which was not easy! It was pretty awesome getting to sit in the famous seat you see in all the movies.
For lunch we tried the Docking Bay 7 and let me tell you – YUM! We went all out and tried a bunch of goodies (menu provided for your viewing pleasure).
For entrees we got the Roasted Endorian Tip-Yip Salad and the Felucian Garden Spread. We ordered both desserts, and then tried the Moof Juice and the alcoholic beverage (don’t remember the name and it isn’t listed on this menu). Honestly, it was all delish! However, of the 2 desserts, I say go with the chocolate one (Batuu-Bon).
After lunch we explored the lightsaber shop, the droid shop, and more. The lightsaber shop was so cool and I so badly wanted to leave with a Rey lightsaber…maybe in the future. We then tried some blue milk and green milk. Both drinks are dairy-free, made with coconut and rice milks. You can get alcohol added to them, but we decided not to as it was so hot out. We had heard these drinks weren’t very good from those that have been to the park in Disneyland, but we wanted to make our own opinions. The truth? Not very good. The blue one is more berry flavor and the green is more citrus, but they both don’t have a lot of flavor and they both just aren’t very tasty. They aren’t that creamy (as someone asked us) and we didn’t finish either. I think the recipe could be tweaked, but in order to serve many people, I just don’t think it will be. However, if they are trying to have the success of Butterbeer at Universal, they really should change the recipe as this seems to be a popular consensus.
After a little more looking around and photo taking, we finally left right as our time there was ending. Leaving the land was like a shock because it honestly felt like we were somewhere so hidden and different, it did not feel like we were within Hollywood Studios.
So my thoughts? I LOVED this new land, Disney did an AMAZING job with it, and I cannot wait to return – although it probably won’t be for a long time =( This land is bound to be very busy for a very long time.
