Let’s talk about Ms. Mary!! She has grown with us being apart of the many businesses we have supported since 2016.  I am so happy to offer my readers a chance to see how a business can grow with a foundation of like-minded- women to give support and encouragement. We have interviewed her back in 2019 where she was reaching goals in her business from support from our community. But she now has taken her business to the next level becoming a national phenom and one of R+F’s top consultants. You have to meet her to know she loves what she does and it shows!!!
Tell us about your business and how you became the successful businesswoman you are today?
In May of 2017, I started noticing wrinkles around my eyes and forehead, not to mention the uneven skin tone from years of tanning in the sun. I had no clue about skincare, I was 41 and had only ever used a bar of soap. Then one day I seen a post on facebook, it was a before and after of a woman my age and she looked like she had aged backwards. I reached out to my friend and said……I don’t know what you sell, but if I can get results like that…I want it! What skincare line am I talking about? Rodan and Fields (RF), a legacy line created by the doctors who created ProActiv. They are Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, two Stanford trained woman, who wanted to create a skincare line for people with acne, sensitive skin, sun damage or fine line and wrinkles. I had no intention of running a skincare business, what I did know is that these Drs. were world renowned because of ProActiv, so I trusted the brand. However, the main selling point, was that they offer a 60 day money back guarantee on all their products and their business. Tie all that with a deeper discount by becoming a consultant, I was sold! I started using the skincare regimen, as well as casually sharing the business opportunity with friends. Over time, I started noticing the lines around my eyes and forehead were disappearing and the uneven skin tone was disappearing. Not only did my confidence grow, but my business began to flourish as well. I loved the relationships I was building and I truly enjoyed my role as a leader. With a renewed sense of confidence and the stability that this business provides, I was able to make life-changing decisions. By working 10 – 15 hours a week, my income from RF exceeded my government salary, I was able to walk away, stay at home and be present for all the little moments in my families lives.
Describe yourself in three words:
Thoughtful Caring Surprising
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Successfully growing and training my team. I am so incredibly blessed to have over 40 women lock arms with me. Our company has a simple business model that is duplicatable. With Rodan and Fields, you are in business for yourself but never by yourself. I tell people all the time when I train, it doesn’t matter WHAT your goal is, there is not one to big or small. It’s my job as a leader, to make sure I equip my team with what they need to achieve it. The feeling of achievement comes when you are able to inspire your team, let them know what is possible, and that they are capable. Its not about becoming successful when you reach the top of the company, its when the ladies on my team are able to use this income to pay off debt faster or save for a family vacation, or even a shameless shoe fund. Success comes in all forms.
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
To continue to build my team, help them achieve their goals (big or small), and share my love of the products.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
This has not always been easy. In the beginning of my business, I worked and worked. I didn’t set any boundaries and it impacted my family. I wasn’t present, yet that was the very thing I wanted my business to provide. This past year, I set office hours. Times that my team or customers could reach me, and if it was outside of those hours, they knew I would get back to them within 24hrs. Being consistent and setting those hours has really allowed me to be fully present, whether it is with my business or my family.

What is your goal for retirement?
To be financially stable, and be able to travel. There is so much out there in this world that I am ready to see and explore.
Do you have any advice for women who would like to start their own company?
DO IT AFRAID! It’ll never be the perfect time. And surround yourself with other successful entrepreneurs.
