I recently had the privilege of attending a virtual WOW event by Moms Meet and The Flavor Your Life campaign. This campaign aims to educate North American consumers about authentic extra virgin olive oil from Europe.

Flavor Your Live is empowering consumers by educating them about the rich history and delicious properties that these oils display—and sharing the delicious extra virgin olive oil culinary culture that’s been harvested in Europe for generations.

I got to discover the magic of Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil during this exclusive virtual cooking class streamed from Italy with fourth-generation Italian chef, Riccardo Zanni and olive oil expert, Alissa Mattei.

Alissa Mattei was one of the speakers; she is an organic chemist, professional taster, recipe developer, and consultant. I loved the taste testing portion of the event; How cool of a job would that be! One tidbit I found interesting during this event is that a panel of trained, expert tasters tests for taste defects and the presence of positive attributes of fruitiness, bitterness, and spiciness. If the oil doesn’t have the signature fruity taste and harmonious balance, it will not receive an Extra Virgin rating.

As a follow up to the Buno Appetitio! Influencer Event last month where I joined an authentic Italian Cooking Class virtually, I was sent sampling kit in the mail. My kit included a bottle of Le Stagioni d’ Italia 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Le Stagioni d’ Italia Carnaroli rice. And this week, I used both of these for a delicious meal of sausage, veggies and the rice!

A tip Chef Riccardo Zanni given in the online cooking demonstration that I took note of: between use, store your oil somewhere dark and cool, not on the counter or near a stove, and never in the refrigerator. Keep the lid screwed on tight, and use your oil within six months of opening.

From this event, I learned that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is pretty interesting and complex. Check out the Flavor Your Life campaign and educate yourself more on the how to check the authencity of your oils and learn how to cook properly with it!
