Recently, I switched to dryer balls and made some DIY dryer ball spray. In 2020, I started researching how to replace all the store-bought products that have tons of toxins added to them. I first started with my makeup then skincare, then everyday cleaners and now I have moved to my laundry room products.

There were a couple of reasons why I wanted to start in the laundry room by ditching the dryer sheets.

One, my facial skin has become very sensitive in the past few years and breaks out or becomes very inflamed, red and dry- sometimes within hours. In addition to household products I have changed my makeup and overall personal care products. the products we were using in the bath and lotions afterward to see if any would fix the reoccurring issue. Since, I was removing the products I put on my skin that were made with toxins, I figured why keep washing and drying my clothes that I put on my skin every day in toxins.

Two, instead of throwing away money with each dryer sheet, I decided to look for some good smelling DIY dryer ball spray and invest in natural wool dryer balls. Young Living has became my go-to brand for making all my nontoxic switch, so of course, I am using some of my favorite essential oils in this DIY Dryer Ball Spray!

Lastly, I got addicted to watching videos explaining that dangers of dryer sheets from their added chemicals that allow the smell to attach to your clothes to how the sheets leave a film on your lint trap that can potentially cause a fire.

Benefits of Natural Wool Dryer Balls

There are many benefits when using wool dryer balls compared to dryer sheets. The big one is you are eliminating all the chemicals that are added to the dryer sheets and fabric softeners. This was a big reason for me switching and help with my youngest’s sensitive skin.

Wool dryer balls dry clothes 25% faster and help reduce static cling within your clothing. The balls bounce around and help separate your clothing which helps items dry faster and cuts down on your electric bill.

They are cost-effective because they are re-useable for 1000 loads of laundry. They are all-natural and hypoallergenic. Really, I think it was a no brainer to ditch the dryer sheets and add a more natural solution.

DIY Dryer Ball Spray

What You Need:

  • Wool Dryer Balls
  • Essential Oil (flavor of choice)
  • Witch Hazel
  • Spray Bottle
  • Distilled water

What to do:

  1. First you put 20 drops of the essential oil of your choice into the spray bottle.
I like to use lavender & thieves
  2. Next, add a Tbsp of witch hazel. This helps the essential oil bond to the wool balls and your clothes to maintain the scent.
  3. Fill up the rest of the spray bottle with distilled water.

When you get your wool balls they will smell heavily of wool and sheep because they are 100% natural. Spray the balls with your dryer ball spray to help alleviate the natural smell.

Once you spray your dryer balls allow them to dry for an hour or you can throw them in your dryer by themselves to dry the spray. When they are dry, you can toss one or two in with a load of laundry. Use more dryer balls on larger loads.

Do you use Dryer Balls instead of dryer sheets? Or is there some household product you switched too in order to be more toxin-free?
