Q: Tell us about your business and how you became the successful business woman you are today.
A:
Getting into the plant business for me, was simply because of my love for plants! I wanted to be able to share plants and the art of growing plants with my fellow plant lovers. I have always been involved in my community; I am the Mass Care lead for the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross, and before COVID I had a yoga business that was community and family-focused, so opening a plant shop to share with others was just an extension of my service to the community! Another big reason for starting this business was because I wanted to make plants available to the South Denver plant community! There are some awesome little plant shops in Colorado, but they are all over 20 miles from me, so having a shop for my part of town just made sense. Having a small business is definitely hard work. I built Mrs. Fancy Plants from the ground up; designing everything from my website to the plants that I carefully handpick each week! There is a definite sense of accomplishment when you put your time and love into your business and watch it grow in return!

Q: Describe yourself in three words:
A:
Determined, adaptable, caring

Q: What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
A:
My greatest professional achievement is Mrs. Fancy Plants! Watching my “baby” grow from the ground up has been such an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to see how much more this little plant business will grow!

Q: What are your professional goals for the next six months?
A:
In the next six months, I hope to be able to move Mrs. Fancy Plants from the small shop in my backyard to a storefront in my neighborhood!

Q: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
A:
I would love to get into marketing! I have learned so much just from branding Mrs. Fancy Plants and I am sure there is a wealth of information I don’t even know about!

Q: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
A:
Yoga is a huge part of my life both physically and mentally! Setting a schedule helped a lot. I set work hours just like I would at any other job, and then I try to leave it all for the day when it’s over, although I will say that plants are such a huge part of my life that it really never feels like work!

Q: What websites do you visit every day?
A:
I like to visit different plant websites both in and out of Colorado. It helps me to research plant trends, and of course, I love to look at and read about anything plant related!

Q: What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?
A:
The best nail salon in Denver is Nails of the World! I have been going to Leann for over 10 years, and her shop is just the best! Another small business I like to support is the Spice Trade Brewery in Greenwood Village. They have a great food selection and they rotate beers, so there’s always something new! Little Eden Plantscaping is a small piece of Heaven! They are located in Arvada and have some of the best plants I have ever seen! I could spend all day in there!

Q: What is your goal for retirement?
A:
When I retire, I would like to move to a house in a tropical place! It is hard to keep plants in Colorado sometimes because of our dry climate, I would love to retire in a place where my plant babies will thrive in nature instead of under a humidifier!

Q: Do you have any advice for women who’d like to start their own company?
A:
Don’t doubt yourself! Yes, it is scary to start a business but it also so very rewarding! Have confidence in yourself and your business, you got this!

Q: Any final comments?
A:
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about Mrs. Fancy Plants! I hope to see you around the shop soon!
